Easy Games for Drama Class
Here are 10 of our favorite classroom games for the theatre or drama classroom. Many of these can be adapted for different grade levels and class sizes. Let us know in the comments if you have a favorite variation on these games, or a great idea for a game that we missed!
King of the Jungle: Join Paul as he shares how to play this Theatre Game — King of the Jungle! The key to becoming the King of the Jungle is by keeping the rhythm, and not making mistakes when you’re called. King of the Jungle teaches active-listening, memorization and co-ordination.
One Word Story: Adapt this easy theatre game for any age. Start with a word to inspire the story and move through the line, each person saying one word to progress the story. This teaches improvisation and listening.
Pass the Noise: Sit or stand in a circle. One person makes a sound. The person next to them copies the sound. The sound is passed around the circle. The game can be played with body sounds, like clapping, or with soundmakers.
Elephant: The purpose of this theatre warm up is to increase the group’s energy and listening skills. The game can be played with 5 to 30 people and can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.
Mindful Museum Theatre Game: This is a variation of Sneaky Statues, or Night at the Museum, called Mindful Museum. It promotes the understanding that emotions originate in our bodies, and we can notice them as they arise so that they don’t turn into habitual storms without our permission or awareness.
The Creature: This drama game promotes team playing, group awareness, acceptance, and is excellent for encouraging players to work together as one cohesive unit.
Freeze Tag: The Comedy Kids demonstrate how to play the popular improv and warm-up game “Freeze Tag”.
Heads Up, Heads Down: This drama game promotes concentration, group awareness and is excellent for bringing focus to the start of your drama session.
Splat!: This is a fun-filled theatre game that provides an excellent high energy start your drama class.
Frog in the Pond: This drama game encourages drama students to release and share energy.

It's Showtime!
