Challenges and Solutions at Jones Hall in Houston

Jones Hall, a beloved Houston landmark, has been undergoing extensive renovations over the past few years to enhance the concert-going experience. The interior has seen substantial updates, including the installation of new seats, reconfigured lobby spaces, and improved accessibility.

Backstage and acoustic improvements are central to the renovation efforts. The installation of modernized stage automation control and fiber networks has ushered in advanced audio-visual capabilities for broadcasting, livestreaming, and stage effects. The acoustics, already improved with the addition of a Wenger Custom Diva Shell in 2023, received further upgrades in 2024 with the addition of a forestage reflector designed to enhance sound from string instruments and soloists.

Lead Installer, Mike Yocum provided this behind-the-scenes look at the project. Wenger’s Owatonna and Syracuse teams worked together on this installation, as well as joining with Texas partners M&S Installations and Webster Rigging and their teams. Wenger’s Project Management team did a fantastic job with coordinating this large-scale project, from inception to completion, and beyond. This project overall took a tremendous amount of coordination and installation took just shy of a full month.
